Since the start of the Ecodriven project the Energy Saving Trust has worked through its network of regional advice centres to give ecodriving advice to private individuals.  The centres have used Ecodriven information and materials such as leaflets and other giveaways extensively.

On 22nd May 2008 as part of the UK's Ecodriven activities six journalists were given ecodriving lessons at the Eden Centre in Cornwall.   This lead to several newspaper stories about ecodriving.

As part of the Ecodriven project, the Energy Saving Trust has teamed up with Ford to offer Smart Driving lessons for two weeks at the British Motor Show in July 2008.   Four instructors will work each day and we expect to train approximately 500 people including journalists, fleet managers, VIPs from the motor industry, and politicians.   Ford are offering the most efficient driver at the motor show a prize of £5 000 (€6 500)  worth of energy efficient appliances and energy saving home improvements.

The Energy Saving Trust / Ecodriven and Ford are also hosting a nationwide ecodriving challenge in July and August 2008 to find the UK's best ecodriver.   The winner will receive from Ford £10 000 (€13 000)  worth of energy efficient appliances and energy saving home improvements.

Ecodriven is participating in and helping to organise the MPG Marathon 2008 http://www.mpgmarathon.com/. This is a 400 mile ecodriving challenge that we expect to receive great publicity nationwide.

    Golden Rules of ecodriving

    1. Shift up as soon as possible
Shift up between 2.000 and 2.500 revolutions.
    2. Maintain a steady speed
Use the highest gear possible and drive with low engine RPM
    3. Anticipate traffic flow
Look ahead as far as possible and anticipate to surrounding traffic
    4. Decelerate Smoothly
When you have to slow down or to stop, decelerate smoothly by releasing the accelerator in time, leaving the car in gear
    5. Check the tyre pressure frequently
25% too low tyre pressure increases rolling resistance by 10% and your fuel consumption by 2%.
